Each treatment I provide is tailored to the specific needs and concerns you bring to my attention. While the focus and training of my massage work is often medical, I value working with individuals from all walks of life. One is never too young, too old, or too frail. There is a correct measure of comfort and healing touch available to all of us. The importance of my continuing education and training is essential, as it opens the doors of skilled touch for all to benefit from massage.

Integrative, Therapeutic Massage
Offers a combination of varying pressures and techniques to stimulate and vitalize connective tissues throughout the body. It enhances circulation, promotes a sense of deep relaxation and well-being, and provides the system an opportunity to lower stress, release toxins, and self-correct. It employs techniques found in traditional Swedish massage, and borrows from various other modalities, depending on each individual’s needs. Likewise, the depth and pressure of touch is based on the needs and requests of the receiver.

Reflexology
Originally developed many centuries ago, Reflexology is a science that maps out reflexes and energy meridians contained in the entire body on the feet and/or the hands. By applying pressure to specific areas on the feet and/or hands, every organ, gland and body part can be affected, including the skeletal structure. Reflexology can be especially useful and comforting in situations where full body work is either not possible, is declined, or is contraindicated.

MLD (Manual Lymph Drainage)
The techniques of MLD are designed to increase the movement of lymph and interstitial fluid, via careful hand movements, performed both gently and slowly. Conditions that respond favorably to MLD include sprains, whiplash, post-surgical edema (including cancer surgery), Palliative Care, Fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Migraine and Sinus Headaches, and some neurological and nervous system disorders. Please note: my training and certification is in the Vodder Technique for MLD. Individuals with Lymphedema will be referred to a qualified CLD (specialists trained and certified to offer bandaging and exercises, in addition to the MLD protocols).

Comfort Touch
“Comfort Touch is a nurturing style of massage designed to be safe, appropriate and effective for the elderly and the ill.” It can be offered to an individual, healthy or otherwise, who is seated, in a recliner or wheelchair, a hospital bed, or home-based bed. Receivers can remain fully clothed, and the techniques do not require the use of oils or lotions. Comfort Touch is beneficial for a broad range of circumstances, including the chronically or terminally ill, the elderly, persons with Alzheimer’s or dementia, pre-and postsurgical patients, those with spinal cord and closed head injuries, issues of trauma and mental illness, autism, pregnant and perinatal women, newborns, infants and children.

Barefoot Shiatsu
This technique is practiced with the receiver fully clothed, lying on a flat cotton mat on the floor. Pillows, cushions and a blanket are made available for comfort. Portions of each session are delivered by the practitioner standing astride the receiver in a well-balanced, grounded stance, in order to deliver gentle but firm pressure with the feet. Segments of each session also employ the use of the practitioner’s hands. Both the anterior and posterior sides of the receiver are treated, as are the feet, hands, neck and head. Some traction-stretching of the legs and arms can also be included. The many benefits of Barefoot Shiatsu include the release of deep-seated tensions in muscle fibers and nerves, a rhythmic loosening of the spinal column, the sacroiliac joint and pelvic areas, increased stimulation to all circulatory systems of the body, and enhancing the body’s own healing abilities, including emotional release.

Appointments for this modality are available only at the Peace Massage Home Studio.

Unless otherwise noted, most of my treatments are 75 minutes. When scheduling an appointment, please allow for this. After your session, I encourage you to plan time for some quiet reflection and relaxation, along with plenty of water.

The focus of every massage I provide consists of three essential elements:

  1. Making certain that you are comfortable and are given the opportunity to have your questions and concerns addressed.
  2. Learning from you how I can be of service to your needs, to the best of my ability, for the time you are working with me.
  3. Your honest feedback, both during and after your treatment. I will check in with you, especially if we are working together for the first time.
